This bird is known in the Philippines as a Mayang Simbahan (Church Maya), probably because it's usually seen, peddled and sold outside the churches. But it's actually called the Eurasian Tree Sparrow, found in Eurasia and Southeast Asia. While this bird is viewed as a pest in some parts of Australia, in China and Japan it is widely celebrated in oriental art.
